We are already on week 3 of the Love Your Home Challenge by Melissa Michaels. This challenge was first printed in her book Love the Home You Have, but she is sharing the challenge each week on her blog this month.
Day 15 – Making Memories: Gone are the days when we send all of our photos to be printed. While there are some good things about the technology shift to digital, the not so good thing is many of our favorite photos live on our phone or computer. Today take a quick look through your phone or computer images. Pick a few candid moments or special memories and send them online to a photo printer.
My son will be 2 years old in a couple of months, yet I never got his newborn pictures printed! This week I ordered them online through Sam’s Club’s photo center. Now I just need to add them to his scrapbook.
Day 16 – A Place of Your Own: Do you have a special spot in your home, a comfy chair or a desk? Today treat yourself to a little love by improving or designing that place of your own. Add a spring pillow on a special chair, declutter your desktop and add a vase of flowers, find a special cup for your morning coffee or afternoon tea, or gather a new stack of books and magazines by your reading spot. Treat yourself to an inspiring place of your own.
When I wrote my 5 tips for living in a small home, I shared a picture of my desk area. This week I added some pretty decor. I added a small vase with flowers to the wall and a framed magazine clipping to the shelf. The clipping says, “Find Your Calling”. I thought that was great motivation for my desk area, and it is pretty too!
Day 17 – Lovely Linens: Today we are going to streamline and refresh our linens. Pare down excess sheets and pillowcases and only keep to what you actually use. Tidy up the shelf or closet where you keep bedding!
Last year I organized my linen closet for free, and it has been easy to maintain. However, the shelf where I keep the sheets had started to get a little cluttered with extra curtains and piles of sheets and pillowcases. I decided to get rid of the curtains because we had used them in our previous home, but we have no use for them in our current home. I also tucked all of the sheet sets into matching pillowcases.
If you are on Pinterest, then you have probably seen that idea floating around! If you haven’t here is the idea: Put the fitted sheet, flat sheet and any other pillowcases that go to the sheet set into one pillowcase. That way you always have a complete set of sheets when it comes time to making the bed. This is so easy and makes life a little less complicated! If you would like to see the before of my closet, check out my video on YouTube.
Day 18 – A Gracious Giver: Where do you keep your gift wrap? Is it hard to find, wrinkled and crinkled? Do you have pretty ribbons, gift tags or embellishments for gifts? Today gather what you need to set up a newly organized space. What will inspire you to give each gift your own special touch?
Our gift wrapping storage is pretty simple. I use a door wreath hanger to hold all of our gift bags and a plastic bag that contains tissue paper, gift tags, scotch tape, and a pair of scissors. All of the wrapping paper rolls are in a large glass vase. I keep both of these items tucked away in a closet. They are easy to get too when needed, yet still out of sight when I’m not using them.
Day 19 – Make it Sparkle: Today let’s make the bathroom sparkly! Clean the whole room if you are motivated, or focus on one part that could use a little TLC. Clean the mirrors, polish the faucets or reorganize a drawer. Make it shine and step back to admire your progress!
This was my day to clean the bathrooms anyways, so it worked out perfectly. There is no medicine cabinet in our bathroom, but we do have a big shelf where I store our toiletry items in baskets. I went through each of the baskets and pulled out anything that we weren’t currently using, and then replenished the towels and toilet paper on the shelf. On the sink I added a small candle next to the soap dispenser.
Day 20 – Music to Your Soul: Music moves us, improves our mood and inspires us! Today get your home soundtrack organized and ready. Set up a house cleaning soundtrack, put together a fun dinner playlist or round up inspirational songs that speak to your soul. You can set up music with an online service or app for your computer or phone (Amazon Music, Spotify and Pandora are all great options).
Music is almost always being played in our home. My husband is a big fan of music, and so is my son. I like to play Pandora during the day because I can type in any artist or song that I am in the mood to listen to!
Day 21 – A Cleaning Frenzy: Today we are going to clean as much as we can for 15 minutes. Before you begin, grab your phone and snap a quick BEFORE pic of the area you intend to tidy or clean. Now, crank up your cleaning playlist and set a timer for 15 minutes. Ready, set, GO! When your timer goes off, grab the camera and take an after pic! Amazing, right?
I completed this task the same day that I completed Day 16. My desk area often becomes the dumping grounds for papers and other items that don’t have a home. So I went through all of the papers and organized some of my file folders. A clear desk makes getting work done so much easier.
Have you joined the challenge this month? Let me know below what has been your favorite day. It is hard to believe that we are almost done with the challenge!
P.S. This will be my only post this week. With the time change last week, we got out of our normal schedule and routines and I didn’t get much done on the blog and social media. This week I’m hoping to catching up on writing blog posts, reading my favorite blogs, and finding great content to share on social media.
I hope you have a Happy Easter this weekend!
