If you don’t like where you are at, it’s time to make some changes. You don’t have to make big complicated changes. Here’s how to get your life back on track in only 3 steps.
A couple of weeks ago I woke up early, poured a cup of coffee, and spent time journaling about the past year and changes I want to make in the new year.
This is the 3rd year I’ve been doing this along with picking a word for the year and I’ve seen big changes in my life because of this practice.
It doesn’t matter what time of year you reading this. Januaury, July, November…. any time is a great time to get back on track and start living a better life.
Recently I read a quote that read something along the lines of… “If someone tells you that you’ve changed, take it as a compliment.”
Change is a good thing! If your life isn’t working out right now, the only thing that will fix it is CHANGE.
How to Get Your Life Back on Track:
Reflect on the past.
Before you can make changes and move forward, you have to know where you have come from. You need to figure out what isn’t working.
I love to write all my thoughts out on paper and encourage you to write things out to. This gets the thoughts swirling around in your head, out on paper. Or if you want to type it out, that’s fine too!
To reflect on the past or current situtaion ask yourself some key questions.
- What were some of the highlights from last year?
- How have I grown?
- What did I learn?
- What didn’t I like about last year?
Look ahead to where you want to go.
After you have taken the time to think about what isn’t working in your life, now it’s time to think about what your life will look like once it is back on track.
Again, this is a great time to journal. Grab some paper and a pen (or keyboard) and start writing away.
This is just a time for you to get your thoughts out on paper. Don’t worry about grammar.
As you think about what you want your life to look like, ask yourself these questions and journal about them.
- What do I want to change this year?
- Is there a word I want to focus on?
- How do I want to grow?
- Do I have specific goals and action steps I want to take?
Make small daily changes.
I love this quote from John C. Maxwell, “You’ll never change your life, until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routines.”
Big changes happen a little at a time by repeating daily habits. But now, you have to know what those daily habits are going to be.
Based off of your journaling, you know where you want to go. Think of one thing you need to change and work backwards. What are
Do you want to be more fit?
Work your way backwards and list a few daily habits that will make a difference. It could be daily habits like, drinking water, eating a vegetable at each meal, getting some form of exercise each day.
Do you want to keep your house clean?
Think of things you could do each day that will help you achieve that. One load of laundry, clean kitchen at night, pick up before bed.

Do you want to be more motivated?
You need to understand why you lack that motivation. Most often it is a mental block and lack of self care. Listen to positive messages, spend less time on social media, get your self ready every day.
