How Emily Went From Overwhelmed to Thriving at Home!

After having my firstborn in 2014, I decided to quit my full time job and become a stay at home mom. It was supposed to be easy. Right?!

Well, it wasn’t!

Most days I was lost, wondering what on earth I was supposed to do, but at the same time I didn’t know how I was going to get it all done.

I was miserable!

Instead of getting myself ready each day, I spent the majority of my days in elastic waist pants and an oversized t-shirt and didn’t put any effort into how I looked.

I wondered how all the other moms could get themselves together but I couldn’t.

The above picture was taken when my son was 7 months old. I was smiling on the outside, but I was miserable on the inside.

I couldn’t figure out how to take care of myself, keep up with the laundry, make dinner, and be a good mom all at the same time.

Being a stay at home mom was overwhelming, and I desperately wanted a change.

Then one day while I was at home, I got a glimpse of myself in the mirror. That glimpse change everything. I couldn’t believe what I saw!

I didn’t recognize my reflection.

I literally looked myself in the eye and said out loud,“Who are you? This has got to stop!”

Right then I put on a cute t-shirt and nice pair of shorts. I put on a little make up and teased my ponytail.

Instantly, I felt better and more motivated!

Ever since that day, I’ve gotten myself ready each morning. That had a domino affect on the rest of my life.

Slowly but surely, I started making changes. I began following routines, practicing basic self care, and really enjoying my role as a stay at home mom.

Then we welcomed our 2nd born. This time around, I was in a much better place as a mom and homemaker. Now I can truly say I have the BEST job.

Currently, I’m a full time stay at home mom who homeschools my 3rd grader and kindergartner.

And after the kids go to bed, I blog here at Queen of the Household, so that I can encourage other stay at home moms. Because I know how much it’s needed!
