If you love a welcoming, relaxed space, you should consider adding some boho farmhouse style to your home. This design style is a mix of bohemian and farmhouse style.
I recently gave our master bedroom a refresh without doing anything complicated like painting the walls or rearranging the furniture.
Our master bedroom has been neglected ever since we moved in almost 5 years ago and was in desperate need of a refresh.
With just a little time and money, I was able to add some beautiful, yet simple boho farmhouse touches to our master bedroom.
I hope in this post you will get lots of ideas for updating your space in this fun and beautiful style.
What is BoHo Farmhouse Style?
Boho farmhouse is versatile and allows for a range of style choices. I love it because it takes the extremes of both styles and meets in the middle creating a classic look.
It marries vintage with modern and neutral with color and busyness with simplicity. Opposites look great together, and that’s why this design style works so well together.
However both styles have some common elements too. They both use texture and natural elements which bring a relaxed and comfortable feeling to a space.
You can add in eclectic elements that reflect your life by adding antiques and unique vintage finds with modern touches.
Personally, I like to add more color and layers than most farmhouse designs. However the boho style seems like too much in one room and more bold colors than I like.
Boho farmhouse brings those two extremes together in balance.
If that describes your taste of decor as well, you will probably like a boho farmhouse style.
My personal philosophy is to decorate with what you have and love. Mix up elements of styles that you love.
This will help you stay away from extreme trends and you’ll create more of a classic look.
Use the list below to look for items you already have. Then add in specific elements that are missing.
Boho Farmhouse Decor Ideas
1. Add Texture
In order to create a comfortable and inviting space, you need lots of texture. You don’t want your room to look stiff or cold.
In my bedroom, I added texture through the canvas and wreath above the bed, the basket on my nightstand and the comforter.
A bedspread will make or break the look of your room. It’s important to get it right.
So one of the first things I added to my bedroom was this textured comforter from BEDSURE. It’s a neutral color that’s versatile but certainly not boring!
The fringe on the comforter brings interest to the room without competing for attention.
Boho farmhouse is all about comfort and this bedspread is full of comfort. In fact, my husband described it as sleeping with pillows on top of us! It’s just the right thickness.
I also love that this comforter is a great price. I appreciate companies that keep their products affordable while providing quality and BEDSURE has done that.

2. Pop of Color
If you look for pictures of farmhouse decor, you’ll see lots of white on white. But when you mix boho with farmhouse, you get to add in a pop of color.
In our bedroom I added navy blue as our pop of color.
The headboard, throw pillow and picture frame all have navy blue in them. There’s also pops of green in the plants, the wreath, and one of the knick knacks on the side table.
Pick a color you love and add it throughout your space in a throw blanket, throw pillow, framed art, or knick knack.
3. Neutrals
Not everything in your space should have color. You need plenty of neutrals to balance the color out.
In our bedroom the walls were already painted a neutral brown. Eventually, I’d love to brighten the space up with a light beige or cream.
I kept the bed sheets and comforter in neutral as well. That way they don’t compete with the headboard and other unique elements.
The white canvas above the bed also provides a neutral background for the fern wreath.
4. Plants
Both the bohemian style and the farmhouse style include plants. Live plants are great to have, but there are lots of realistic faux plants available too.
I love adding greenery to my home. It makes a space more lively.
In my bedroom I included real and faux greenery. I put real potted plants on either side of the bed, a pothos plant and a dracaena plant. Above the bed I added a wreath I made from faux fern branches.
5. Natural Elements
Besides plants, the boho style also includes lots of natural elements like wood, wicker, or rope.
These can be added through baskets like the one on my side table. The wicker in my white plant pot is a natural element that also adds great texture to the ceramic pot.
On the other side of the table is a terra cotta pot which brings in another natural element: clay.
You can also hang pictures of natural elements on the wall. Both the boho and farmhouse style often include framed art of botanicals, farm or wild animals, fish, and food.
6. Eclectic Elements
The boho style is often referred to as carefree and and eclectic. You can add treasures from your travels, things that were passed down from your grandma, or a fun item you scored at a thrift store.
I love using decor pieces that have a story behind them. It so fun to share where something in our home comes from.
To the bed I added a throw pillow that my husband’s great grandmother had made. The horse is a fun, unexpected print. It looks good with the neutral bedspread too!
A few other eclectic elements are on our side tables. To my husband’s side table I used a small marble clock and my grandfather’s old cologne bottle as bookends.
On my side of the table I added some eclectic items too. I didn’t even add a picture to the blue mosaic frame. For now it looks so pretty all by itself.

Great post, Emily! I love how you effortlessly blended bohemian and farmhouse styles in your bedroom refresh. The textured comforter from BEDSURE is a standout, and I couldn’t agree more about the importance of adding pops of color. The navy blue accents really bring vibrancy to the space. Your emphasis on incorporating plants, natural elements, and eclectic pieces adds a personalized touch. Thanks for the inspiring ideas!
