How to Clean a Duster (Step by Step Guide)

I use a microfiber duster wand on a regular basis. It’s perfect for getting those hard to reach places really quickly. I use my duster on ceiling fans and above window and door frames the most.

Anyway, at first I washed my duster wand in my washing machine. Don’t do this! It will ruin your duster.

Actually, mine wasn’t destroyed completely, but little fibers from the duster were all over my washing machine.

If you have a feather duster, microfiber duster, or some other fragile duster, you’ll want to be careful as you clean it without ruining it.

Basically, all you have to do is hand wash the duster! Here’s the exact steps I took.

How to Clean a Duster

1. Remove duster from wand.

If your duster is removable, be sure to take it off the handle. Mine has a couple of little loops that hook on the sides. It was super easy to remove.

2. Fill your kitchen sink with warm soapy water.

You only need enough water to completely submerge your duster. I also added a little dish soap to the water, but whatever mild soap you have on hand should work.

3. Gently stir duster around the water.

As you move the duster around in the water, the dirt and dust will start to come off. You may have to rub your fingers through the cloth or feathers a bit to loosen the dirt.

Repeat until water runs clean.

I drained and filled my sink three times in order to get my duster completely clean.

4. Allow duster to air dry.

Once the duster was clean, I attached it back to the wand and hung it in my shower to air dry.

It looks so much better now, and my microfiber duster didn’t fall apart! This is a really simple solution to cleaning out your duster wand. I hope it helps!
