A Simple Self Care Beauty Routine for Moms

Sharing is caring!

When I first became a mom, I had a really hard time figuring out how to take care of myself.

I was tired and had little energy, so most days I put very little effort into my  appearance.

About four months into motherhood, I got a glimpse of myself in the mirror and I didn’t like what I saw.

I looked myself in the eyes and said, “This has to stop!”

Ever since that day, I’ve made it a priority to not alone take care of my family and home, but also myself. I think my experience is similar to a lot of moms and wives. We have a hard time balancing it all, and often neglect ourselves.

But it doesn’t have to be that way!

I’m living proof that you can take care of your family and your home without neglecting yourself.

Even as a mom with a toddler and new baby, I’ve found time to take care of myself by making it part of my morning routine.

I think it boils down to 3 things.

1. Be Intentional

In order to accomplish anything, you have to be intentional about it. This includes taking care of yourself.

Each morning I intentionally get up before my son so that I can have time to drink a cup of coffee, have my quiet time with the Lord, shower, and get dressed for the day.

My Morning Routine:

6:00 Feed baby and put back to bed.

6:20 Take a shower, shave, get dressed, do hair and makeup

6:50 Enjoy a cup of coffee and quiet time

7:15 Cuddles with my toddler. Eat breakfast together, clean up the kitchen, and throw in a load of laundry.

8:00 Get toddler dressed and play with him.

8:30 Wake baby, and get her dressed for the day.

2. Be Okay with Good Enough

I used to spend an hour getting ready in the mornings. As a mom I don’t have that luxury, but I do have about 30 minutes that I can spend taking a shower, putting on a little makeup, and fixing my hair in a quick style.

That means I don’t wear as much makeup as I used to and my hair is sometimes just thrown into a ponytail, but I still look presentable and feel good about how I look.

Getting Ready in the morning

3. Practice Time Saving Habits.

I’m constantly looking for ways to save my valuable time. Here are a few things that have helped me save time getting ready in the morning.

  • Shave in the shower.

In the past, I used to have to shave outside the shower because I used bad quality razors and would always end up with bumps and burns if I shaved in the shower.

  • Wash Hair Every Other Day

This took me some time to get used to. But now I can’t imagine washing my hair every single day. On the days that I don’t wash my hair, I rub a little baby powder into my scalp to dry up any oil and then style my hair in a quick messy bun or half up ponytail.

  • Have a Go-To Make-up Routine and Hairstyle

I wear a lot less makeup than I used to, but I still wear at least some because it helps me feel confident. There are days I may need to run to the store or a friend wants to meet up at the last minute, so I try to put on a least a little makeup each day. Most days I’ll simply wear under eye concealer, BB cream, blush, and a little lipstick. Then I’ll throw my hair up into a messy bun. This can be done in 5 minutes and makes all the difference in my confidence level!
