If you’re looking for an easy homemade cleaning spray, this post will teach you how to make your own. It will save you all kinds of money and is an easy way to clean your home naturally.
I use this homemade cleaning spray all over my home. It works great on my laminate kitchen counters as well as my wooden dining room table.
I even use it to clean in my bathroom around the outside of the toilet and on my vinyl floors.
It only uses distilled water and castile soap. If you aren’t familiar with castile soap, it is made from plant-based oils and is even safe to use on the skin!
That is a plus in my book since I have young children in the house.
All Purpose Spray Supplies:
- 2 cups distilled water (I use bottled water.)
- 2 Tablespoons of castile soap (I use a lavender scented one.)
- Empty spray bottle
- funnel
Directions:
Using a funnel add 2 Tbs. of castile soap to the spray bottle.
Using a funnel add 2 cups of distilled or purified water to the spray bottle.
You need a little less than 2 cups. I usually have a little left over in the bottle. I try to wait for the bubbles to go down a bit so I can add as much water as possible.
Screw spray lid on tightly.
Shake the spray bottle to mix ingredients.
Store the spray bottle out of direct sunlight and heat.
Where to use homemade cleaning spray
I use my all purpose diy cleaner on my countertops table surfaces. I also spray it on the shower walls and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing with a damp sponge.
When I want to do a quick clean up in the bathroom, I’ll spray down the bathroom countertop and the outside of the toilet. Then I simply use a damp bathroom cleaning rag to wipe clean.
Of course, I use different rags for the countertop and the toilet! 😉

Making your own DIY cleaning spray means you are in control of the ingredients. Have you looked at the ingredients on the bottles of store bought cleaning sprays?
I can’t even pronounce a lot of the things in them! Yet, that is what many people are bringing into their homes and spraying in the air they breathe.
Using a homemade spray also saves you a lot of money. Most of the store bought sprays are diluted chemicals. So you’re paying for water.
When you make your own spray, you can use water you already have and save your money.

I’ve just found your blog. Thank you for your generous tips. I used to clean every weekend, hating that it sucked up most of the weekend, but I was working full-time and teaching yoga 5x per week. After kids, I attempted to find a balance by doing a little bit each day. I stay on track for a few weeks and then it goes out the window (kids are sick, hubby works from home). Hi Marleen! That’s such a great question. I’m actually going to film a video to answer your question, but I’ll do my best to share a couple of tips here. So your routine is flexible and should change and flow with the different seasons of life that you are in even it is from day to day. That way, when something comes up, you can work your cleaning routines around those life events instead of trying to make those life events work around your routine. Also, when your kids are sick, hubby works from home, or whatever comes up that takes up more of your time, ONLY focus on getting the most important cleaning tasks done. For example, laundry and dishes are probably the main things that need done each day. Mopping the floor or cleaning the shower isn’t as important, but you can get to them eventually as your life situations allow. I hope that helps!
