What to include in a Christmas budget:

Gifts

Remember to make a list of all the gifts you think you will need: teachers, neighbors, pastors, friends, ect.

I also like to include stocking stuffers with my gifts budget. Those little items can add up fast!

Gift Wrapping

Do you like to wrap gifts? One of my favorite holiday tradidtions is turning on a Christmas movie and wrapping all the gifts at once.

That wrapping paper cost can add up quickly. Remember to include bows, tags, ribbon, and tape.

Food

If you’re hosting for Christmas, of course you’ll need to budget for the Christmas meals.

However, there are a lot of other food expenses that add up during the holidays too: parties, holiday treats, and gift giving.

Be sure to include all of the parties and events where you’ll be expected to bring food.

Christmas cards

Depending on how many card you’re sending out, Christmas cards could be a big expense that you need to budget for. If you’re getting a professional photo taken, be sure to include the photographer’s fee.

You’ll also need to budget for the cards and postage.

Travel

If you have family or friends that you’ll be visiting, be sure to budget for gas, hotels, and travel snacks. You may also want to get the oil changed and your vehicle serviced before driving it for a long trip.

Decorations

I like to use the same decor from year to year, however there is usually some sort of money that needs to be spent on decor.

Sometimes we need to replace a string of lights that has gone out. We also enjoy getting a new ornament for the kids each year.

Activities/Events

We have to say “no” to many activities this time of year, but there are always a few that we like to include throughout the holiday season.

We always make a gingerbread house, so that goes in the budget. We also do a simple advent activity by reading these Christmas verse cards and a small candy for the day.

If you’re looking for inexpensive ideas, here are 35 budget friendly activities to do with your kids.

6 Ways to prepare for Christmas early this year, so you can relax and avoid the holiday stress.

Special Clothing

Whether you’re getting matching family pajamas, going to a fancy party, or just want to wear something festive, make sure you budget for that special clothing.

Hosting

If you’re hosting guests at all during the Christmas season, add those hosting costs to your budget.

You may want to buy party favors, paper plates and cups, and extra toilet paper.

If you’re hosting overnight guests, you’ll want to make sure the guest room is ready to go. There may be things you need to buy for your guests.

Donations

This time of year is a wonderful time to give monetary gifts to charities. Be sure to include those donations in your budget planner.
