When you plan for a road trip, there is absolutely one thing you must not forget. Road Trip Snacks!
I’ve found that road trip snacks can be a life saver when it comes to melt downs and hungry and tired kids, or adults for that matter. Plus bringing your own snacks is a great way to keep your family trip budget friendly.
The problem is that most of the typical snacks you find aren’t healthy. On top of that, while your family is traveling, you are probably eating fast food and that means french fries abound!
So let’s get into some healthy road trip snacks for your whole family that are kid friendly too!

Healthy Road Trip Snacks:
If you are going for a long car ride, taking a cooler may not be an option. That’s why I have divided these snacks up into ones that don’t need to be refrigerated and snacks that do.
Also, these option are easy to buy from the store. You don’t have to spend a lot of time making them ahead of time.
- Apple Chips
- Raisins
- Dried Cranberries
- Teddy Grahams
- Goldfish Crackers
- Granola Bars
- Nutri-Grain Bars
- Fig Newton Cookies
- Applesauce Pouches
- Dry Cereal
- Pretzel Sticks
- Yogurt Covered Raisins or Craisins
- Mini Rice Cakes
- Trail Mix
- Breakfast Cookies
- Green Pea Snack Crisps
- Homemade muffins

Road Trip Snacks that Need Refrigerated:
- Cheese Sticks, cubes, or slices
- Blueberries
- Sliced mini cucumbers
- Baby Bell Cheese
- Grapes
- Apples or apple slices
- Carrot sticks
- Yogurt pouches
Also, you’ll make your mom life much easier if you divide up snacks for each child into a gallon Ziploc bag. That way you can keep track of how many snacks are being eaten and they are easy to get to in the car!

And you can’t forget about drinks! We have found that the easiest and most healthy option is to bring bottled water and my kids’ own travel cups.
I like to add a little water enhancer to their cups. The water enhancer has zero calories, but still tastes good. This is much healthier than the sugary drink pouches and soda.
