This cake is a favorite recipe in our family!
Especially as a small family of only 4, we like to have a smaller 8×8 pan instead of a big cake.
It tastes like a lava cake, but doesn’t use eggs. That is perfect for families with egg allergies.

Ingredients for 1st mixture:
1 cup flour
3/4 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup of water
2 tablespoons of melted butter
1 teaspoon of vanilla
Ingredients for 2nd mixture:
3/4 cup of packed brown sugar
1/4 cup of cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups of water

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease an 8 x 8 inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl, stir together the first 5 ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
In a larger bowl, stir together the net 3 wet ingredients: water, melted butter, and vanilla.
Add the dry ingredients you already stirred into the wet ingredients and stir together.
Pour this first mixture into the greased pan.
Heat 1 1/2 cup water until lightly simmering.
Stir brown sugar and cocoa powder into the water until they are both disintegrated into the hot water.
Slowly pour the water mixture over the cake batter already in the pan.

Carefully, place cake in the oven. Bake for 40 minutes.
Let the cake sit for 20 minutes before serving.
To serve the cake, spoon it into a bowl and spoon the sauce over the top of the cake.
