There was a time when I felt constantly behind in my home.
No matter how much I cleaned, organized, or tried to stay on top of things… it never felt like enough.
I thought the solution was simple:
Try harder. Do more. Be better.
But over time, I realized something surprising.
It wasn’t that I needed more homemaking strategies.
I needed to face a few honest truths that were quietly holding me back.
These weren’t things I necessarily wanted to hear, but they’re the things that actually changed my home.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, behind, or discouraged in your role as a homemaker, these are for you.
1. You Need More Sleep Than You Think
It’s tempting to stay up late.
After a long day, it finally feels like you have a moment to yourself.
But staying up late often creates a cycle of exhaustion that makes the next day harder.
When you’re tired:
- everything feels overwhelming
- your patience runs thin
- simple tasks feel heavier
One of the most practical ways to improve your homemaking is to protect your sleep.
Not perfectly—but intentionally.

2. You Can’t Control Your Husband
This one can be difficult to accept.
It’s easy to feel frustrated when your husband doesn’t help the way you’d like, notice what you notice, or take initiative at home.
But trying to control him through nagging, comparison, or silent resentment will only create more tension.
Instead:
- communicate clearly and kindly
- release unrealistic expectations
- focus on what you can control
And just as importantly, stop waiting for permission to rest.
If you need a break, take one.
Creating margin in your day can completely shift the tone of your home.
3. Don’t Give Your Family Your Leftovers
Many homemakers feel stretched thin. Not because they’re doing nothing, but because they’re doing everything.
Your time and energy are valuable.
And if they’re being poured into commitments outside the home first, your home will always receive what’s left.
This doesn’t mean you need to eliminate everything else.
But it does mean you need to evaluate your priorities.
Your home and your family deserve your best, not your leftovers.

4. Your Phone Is Probably Distracting You More Than You Realize
This one is simple yet powerful.
Your phone can quietly steal your attention throughout the day.
Not always in obvious ways, but in small, repeated moments of distraction.
And those moments add up.
Imagine your day with:
- fewer interruptions
- more presence
- more intentional work in your home
Sometimes the best thing you can do is create boundaries:
- delete distracting apps
- leave your phone in another room
- set specific times to check it
Even small changes can make a big difference.
5. You Can’t Neglect Yourself
There’s a misconception that good homemakers constantly pour out without ever refilling.
But the truth is, you cannot give what you don’t have.
Caring for yourself doesn’t require hours of free time.
It can look like:
- taking a shower
- getting dressed in something that makes you feel put together
- drinking water
- stepping outside
- spending time with the Lord
These small acts of care shape how you show up in your home.
And when you feel better, you do better.
A Simple Way to Get Back on Track

You need a simple reset.
