As a Christian, my answers always come from the Bible. So when I was really struggling as a homemaker, I turned to God’s word to help me learn more about Christian homemaking. These are 5 of the Bible verses that really helped me as a homemaker.
Most of the time, people point to Proverbs 31 and Titus 2, but needed something more.
These verses aren’t specifically about homemaking, but they each can be applied to how we care for our homes. I hope they are an encouragement to you as they have been to me.
5 Bible Verses for Christian Homemaking
Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not human masters.”
This verses is a reminder that the work we do starts from our inward hearts. When we clean the house and make the meals from a grateful heart, it becomes easier and more enjoyable.
This verse also tells us that whatever we do is for the Lord, not humans. So instead of looking around at what everyone else is doing, all you have to do is care for your home simply because you love God not to impress other people.

Ecclesiastes 9:10a “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”
I want to point out that this Bible Verse does not say, “do it perfectly.” It simply says to do it with all your might. Your might is not only physical strength, it is a power and strength from within.
When you decide that you are going to manage your home well, to the best of your ability, that is doing it with all your might.
Another truth that sticks out is this: “whatever your hand finds to do”. That means anything your hands do. Big stuff. Little stuff. Whatever.
Changing diapers. Cleaning messes. Hugging your babies.
Do it ALL with all your might.
Proverbs 14:1 “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”
It may not seem like we are doing much each day as homemakers, but we are building our homes! This Bible verse encourages me to make intentional choices that will build my family up and manage my home well. One of the privileges I have as a mom is to make sure my kids know they are loved and valued.
Because when I don’t make wise decisions that better my home, I’m tearing it down. Homemaking is about so much more than clean dishes and making dinner. Read about the purpose of homemaking here.
Philippians 4:4-13
I love this whole passage as a homemaker. Since it is so long, I won’t write it all out, but I especially love verse 4 that tells us to “Rejoice in the Lord Alway.” Yep, even while I’m scrubbing the shower and changing a dirty diaper!
I also get lots of encouragement from verses 11 and 14. Paul tells us that he has learned to be content in whatever circumstances he finds himself in and that he can do it through Christ’s strength.
As a homemaker, there are days when I don’t feel content, and that robs me of my peace and joy. We can be content as homemakers when we use the strength of God instead of doing it through our own strength.

2 Corinthians 10:5b… “And we take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ.”
Over the past 5 years, I’ve really understood more and more how important my thoughts are. I used to let my mind wander with worry, jealousy, and negativity about my ability as a homemaker.
I compared myself to others.
I felt like taking care of my home was a burden.
I told myself I was no good at cooking. (Read What’s Holding You Back?)
But this verse taught me to stop those thoughts instead of letting them run wild in my mind. Now, when those thoughts pop in my head, I test them with Philippians 4:8-9. Are they true? Are they right? Are they lovely?
If not, those thoughts need to go! Because they are only stealing my peace.
